Saman Dance

 Saman Dance is a traditional dance usually displayed to celebrate important events in the indigenous people of Aceh. Saman dance uses poetry in Arabic and Gayo. In addition to the usual dance is also displayed to celebrate the birth of Prophet Muhammad. Name of the dance "Saman" is obtained from one of the great scholars of NAD, Sych Saman.



Meaning and Function
Saman dance is one of the media for the achievement of the message (Da'wah). This dance reflects the Education, Religious, courtesy, heroism, solidarity and togetherness.Before starting the saman as mukaddimah or opening, which featured an ingenious or clever old or traditional leaders to represent the local community (keketar) or the advice that is useful to the players and spectators. Songs and poems together and continuous disclosure, the players made up of men who are still young by wearing traditional clothing. Presentation of the dance can also be staged, contested between the group room, against the host group (two groups). Judgment based on the ability of each group in the following motion, dance and song (lyric) presented by the opposition.



 
Saman Dance Types
It can be divided six types:

A. Saman Jejunten, performed by youths at night. Saman Jejunten considered the arrangement or position drills and done arbitrarily. Saman Jejunten this is one opportunity to fabricate or to create new songs and movement by players saman are always discussed, thus was born the song (motion) new.
2. Saman Jalu
Saman Jalu or festival is usually performed on the anniversary of Independence of the Republic of Indonesia. Saman Jalu presented one by one on the stage and judged by a jury. The assessment of uniformity of motion, Modesty poem (redet), punctuality, discipline, innovation, and mastery of the stage. Saman Dance festival winner is awarded a prize in accordance with their respective ranks.
3. Saman Entertainment
Saman Saman Dance Entertainment is dedicated to entertaining the guests on special occasions. Saman entertainment, poems typically contain glory and praise of the guests in attendance.
4. Saman Njik
Saman Njik is made at the time eroded (Jamu  njik) rice. Njik Saman is performed at rest eroded rice. Saman dance performed in a sitting position on the embankment (Patal) fields. At this occasion the youth (sebujang) gave his heart to girls and women (seberu) who watch the Saman Dance show.
5. Kumah Saman Sara
Wedding party in interest Gayo always done at night (Kumah Sara). At night it is usually invited some of the village through the family (the cud, kuluh Rege) in other villages. Families that bring guests (house set), especially young men and women. Once guests (amu) is a party place, directly plays Saman Dance is done sitting in a circle and legs protrude (genyur) forward. After all the guests arrive.
6. Jamu Saman
Jamu Saman done by inviting others to the village youth Saman dance all night. Saman Jamu  can also be divided into two kinds, namely jamu Ingi sara saman and saman Jamu Ingi Roa. In Jamu Ingi sara saman, saman dance is performed only one night while Jamu  Roa saman saman dance intending to do for two days and two nights. At the time this took place Saman Dance, each looking for friends (serinen).
